Review: Did Kick-Ass really kick ass?

Posted by Sleepy Sloth On April - 21st - 2010

Well i just saw the movie earlier today and thought I'd post my 2 cents about the movie. This will be a review of some sort. The first one on this blog. I'll try to keep it short. I definitely think Kick-Ass is worth watching. Not a must-watch but definitely worth it. My verdict about it being worthwhile had NOTHING to do with the movie whatsoever and heres why...

According to Thor: The Avengers to begin shooting soon

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Wednesday, March 31, 2010 0 comments

I don't know why, but ever since somewhere around last Friday, everything seemed to have slowed down. There was barely any news. All just minor updates. Looks like its going to be a slow week.

This is probably going to be one of the biggest stories this week too. Chris Hemsworth, an Australian actor who plays or rather will be playing the superhero/norse god Thor in the big screen adaptation of the comic book, has revealed in an interview with MTV that the movie adaptation of "The Avengers" should begin shooting sometime around January or February next year.

For those of you who don't know, The Avengers are some sort of 'league' of superheroes(I'm paraphrasing). This 'league' features some of the most popular Marvel comic book characters such as Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America and The Incredible Hulk. You've probably noticed by now, that the characters I mentioned have already been in a big screen adaptation or will be very soon. The general idea is to make a movie with ALL of these characters in it. So far, it looks like all the actors who played these comic book characters will keep their roles in The Avenger movie but there is still no news or rumour about Edward Norton(The Incredible Hulk) and if he is to be in the film. Don't expect too much news on this movie yet though. It only is expected to be out somewhere in 2012.

"Knight And Day" trailer released.

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Wednesday, March 31, 2010 0 comments

Knight And Day is an action-comedy movie which stars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. The movie is set to be released on June 25th 2010. If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure this is the movie where Tom Cruise did all or most of his stunts.

Here's the synopsis:
"Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz star in the action-comedy "Knight and Day". Their glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure is one where nothing and no one – especially the now fugitive couple – are what they seem. Amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, they must figure out whether to be guided by truth or by trust."

The Weekend Roundup: Borat to be in Men In Black III ?

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Monday, March 29, 2010 0 comments

Things have been pretty quiet since Friday. Only bits and pieces of info regarding different movies, so I decided to take a weekend break and put all these bits into one post.

1. Okay first up are the rumours. Men In Black III ! Yes, they are indeed making a third movie and at the moment is listed for a 2011 release and the movie is in pre-production. There is some bad news though. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, who played agents Jay and Kay, are NOT dead certs to be in the third installment. Apparently they do want to do the movie but have busy schedules. I'm not sure about Tommy Lee Jones, but Will Smith is allegedly weighing up his options between Men In Black III and The City That Sailed Now we all know what Men In Black III would offer, but what exactly is The City That Sailed about? As quoted by slashfilm:

"The girl, who moves to London, finds magic candles that make her wishes comes true, with unintended consequences: The island of Manhattan separates from the continent and floats toward England, bringing her dad ever closer.”
Read the slashfilm article at: Will Smith’s Next Movie: Men In Black 3 or The City That Sailed

Okay, so with lingering doubt over the ever popular agents Jay and Kay, casting has begun for the movie. As usual, the rumours are beginning to fly around and the word is that Borat and Josh Brolin are in talks. Yes, you heard me right!Funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen, who plays Borat and Bruno is rumoured to do the movie alongside the also rumoured Josh Brolin, who interestingly appears in TWO movies this year which also feature the leading cast from Transformers. The first being Wall Street 2 alongside Shia LaBeouf and in Jonah Hex alongside Megan Fox.

2. Okay, onto the second matter. Paranormal Activity 2 will hit theaters this October. The search for a director is over and Kip Williams will be directing. The sequel will begin filming this May. Personally, I highly doubt the sequel will do as well as the first. How many times are they going to expect people to go gaga for the same concept? Anyway, Oren Peli, the director of the first movie assured everybody that "It'll surprise you."

3. The second theatrical trailer for The Last Airbender was released. The movie is directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Honestly, I do not like the idea of this movie and will most definitely not be watching it. It smells like another Dragon Ball or Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li rip off. If your going to do a movie which is has mainly asian characters then just hire an asian cast. That way the movie will have some authenticity. It's not that difficult. It's simple and logical. For more info please visit: racebending.com I'm not kidding. I was looking for some info on this movie a few months ago and came by that site. Trailer below:

4. Last but not least, the new international trailer for The Sorcerer's Apprentice was released. The movie will be out this July and features a pretty decent cast with the likes of Nicolas Cage, Monica Bellucci, and Alfred Molina.
Synopsis: "Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes "The Sorcerer's Apprentice."

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - News

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Monday, March 29, 2010 0 comments

This post was actually intended for the "Weekend Rumour Mill" but it became longer than expected, so I'll just share it first.

Probably the "most popular" bit of information, but definitely horrifying and shocking for a majority of the male species (as well as the tiny microscopic population of females) around the world. I know something definitely died inside me when I found out, although it probably died in 2008 when the movie series first showed. Here I was, in a bittersweet mood after posting the Twilight clips and poster when......

Okay, wait. Did you just say bitterSWEET? I know, I know...I was looking at what was supposed to be the silver lining - it was going to be the END of that horrible excuse of a vampire movie and that everything in the world would be right again! Or so I thought. NoooOO. Boy was I wrong. I had to find out that there was in fact, a fourth book which meant a fourth movie and that talks are currently going on over who will direct it. At that moment, you know that bit of me which died when I actually saw the first movie? It felt like it got picked up again and was run over multiple times by a trailer the size of Optimus Prime before being set on fire. I'm pretty sure thats the first time anything has died TWICE.

Well enough about that. I'll get to the details. The fourth book is titled Breaking Dawn and so thats what the movie will be titled. There is some sort of good news for everyone though. The people behind the Twilight movies are actually trying to lure in quality directors. Word is that they are trying to get Stephen Daldry to direct Breaking Dawn. Now that really is some quality. Mr. Daldry has directed the movies Billy Elliot, The Hours, and The Reader. Each of the three movies mentioned have earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director. Till this day, he remains the only director to be nominated for Best Director for every movie he has made.On top of that, The Hours and The Reader have produced Academy Awards for the Best Actress category. Before any of you Twilight fans get carried away, there is no way the movie is going to win any award. Except maybe for children's awards. With that being said, I highly doubt that Stephen Daldry will direct it but hey, anything can happen.

Another interesting bit of info about Breaking Dawn. Apparently the fourth book is "too lengthy" and "too complicated" which means they might pull a Harry Potter and split it into two movies. No surprise there considering the money making machine the movie is. HAHAHA. Am I the only one who thinks the "too complicated" comment about the book is hilarious?

Cinematic Spotlight - April

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Friday, March 26, 2010 0 comments

As we approach the end of the month of March, its time to take a look at some of the movies coming out in April. We already know that the remake of Clash of the Titans should come out tops next month as it has hopped on the 3D bandwagon. With a cast featuring the likes of Liam Neeson, Sam Worthington, and Ralph Fiennes it is bound to be an action packed must watch for all...but I'm pretty sure all of you already planned on watching it anyway, so in this post, I would like to mention some of the less popular* movies coming out next month which you might be interested in.

There's a number of interesting movies to look forward next month, and I intend to highlight four of them....

* less popular = non-3D

1. Kick-Ass (Comedy, Action, Superhero)
This year seems to be the year of comic book adaptations. Kick-Ass is no exception. It is based on the comic book of the same title written by Mark Millar. The movie also has an interesting cast which includes Nicolas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasse who was in Superbad and Mark Strong who played the villain in last year's Sherlock Holmes

Synopsis:
"Kick-Ass" tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.

His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes -- including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) -- and forges a friendship with another fledgling superhero, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But thanks to the scheming of a local mob boss Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong), that new alliance will be put to the test.

2.The Losers (Action, Adventure, Thriller)
Surprise, surprise! Another comic book adaptation. I don't know much about this movie since I'm not a comic book fan but it's supposed to be "An explosive tale of double cross and revenge" and that sounds like a movie I would like. What will it be like? We'll find out somewhere near the end of April. The film stars Star Trek's Zoe Saldana, Fantastic Four's Chris Evans and Jeffrey Dean Morgan who played The Comedian in Watchmen.

Synopsis:
An explosive tale of double cross and revenge, "The Losers" centers upon the members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team--Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar --find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they're joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war.

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street (Suspense, Horror)
Another remake of a classic movie. This film is a remake of the 1984 movie of the same title and is "designed to reboot the franchise". If this is true then we will be seeing more of Freddy Krueger in the future ;) The film will be out at the end of April and stars another actor from Watchmen, Jackie Earle Haley who played Rorschach. Other cast members include Katie Cassidy, who played Ruby on the TV show Supernatural and Kellan Lutz of Twilight. The movie is also produced by Transformers director Michael Bay.

Synopsis:
Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) returns in "A Nightmare on Elm Street," a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another...but when they sleep, there is no escape.

4. Date Night (Comedy, Romance)
Last but not least, I picked a comedy to wrap up this. I picked this one over The Back-up Plan because Date Night features probably the two funniest people in the leading roles. Steve Carell and Tina Fey were paired up for this movie. There is also another reason i picked this movie. The other Rom Com playing had Jennifer Lopez in it and that made me NOT want to watch it. Besides, any movie with Tina Fey and Steve Carell in it is bound to be hilarious in a not so chick-flick-ish way. The movie also has a pretty big cast and features Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Mark Ruffalo, James Franco, Common, and Leighton Meester.

Synopsis:
Claire and Phil Foster (Tina Fey and Steve Carell) are a typical suburban couple whose lives – including their weekly date nights of dinner and a movie – have become routine. To reignite the marital spark, they visit a trendy Manhattan bistro where a case of mistaken identity turns their evening into the ultimate date night-gone-awry. But as Claire and Phil take their unexpected walk on the wild side, they begin to remember what made them so special together.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World teaser trailer released!

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Thursday, March 25, 2010 0 comments

Probably one of the most anticipated movies of the year, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is an adaptation of the comic book with the same title. Michael Cera who has starred in previous movies such as Year One, Juno, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and most notably his role in Superbad, is playing the leading titular character. So what's the film about?

"Scott Pilgrim's life is so awesome. He's 23 years old, in a rock band, "between jobs," and dating a cute high school girl. Everything's fantastic until a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, roller blading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. But the path to Ms. Flowers isn't covered in rose petals. Ramona's seven evil exes stand between Scott and true happiness. Can Scott beat the bad guys and get the girl without turning his precious little life upside-down?"

The movie also has pretty solid cast with the likes of Superman aka Brandon Routh, Chris Evans who will soon be playing Captain America, and Anna Kendrick who was an Academy Award nominee for best supporting actress in the movie Up In The Air

The movie is scheduled for August 13th, later this year. I previously had no idea as to what the movie was about, but being a comedy fan it was nice to know Michael Cera would be in it. He's been in some pretty awesome movies and I have a feeling this one is no exception after watching the trailer....

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - Exclusive clips, Trailer and HQ Poster

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Thursday, March 25, 2010 0 comments

As much as it sickens me to post about "IT", it was pretty inevitable, since it was a movie and a money spinning cash-cow for that matter. Alas, the monstrosity that is Twilight (*pukes*) has finally reared its ugly head. I've been putting this post off ALOT but the more i seem to do it, the more stuff about "IT" that starts popping up randomly. Anyway, just click on Read More to view the clips and the poster from the third installment of the fur and fang Twilight saga. Most of the clips are from the New Moon DVD which was recently released.

As for the rest of you who pretty much hate "IT" or just never watched "IT", here's a nice short "summary" of the first two movies by someone who posted it on Yahoo Answers.
PS. I edited the first sentence below to make it more "Twi-hard" friendly. Don't say I never did anything for you ;)

Bella: le sigh. i'm moving....ho hum new school....wow he's hot. but he hates me. oh no.

B: oh that's fine, because i'm madly in love with you now.
E: really? can i come STAND IN YOUR ROOM AND WATCH YOU SLEEP? i'd rather do it wiith your permission than without
B: nonsense, come lie with me and stay awake the entire night to watch me sleep. because that's not creepy at all.
E: yays.

a wee bit later....

B: omigod, jacob you're hot.
Jacob: fabulous. love me.
B: okay. thing is i'm in love with someone else, hmm well, i guess i just have to have both of you

later (i may have included more books than just twilight btw)

E & J: could you please pick one of us? you''re breakin our hearts here.
B: mmmm no. i love you both. you'll just have to stick it out
E & J: oookaaay. but only because we love you s derned much.
B: you guys are the best

and now i know i'm adding in other books

B: oooowww paper cut
E: dude, Jasper tried to eat you. relationship officially over.
B: no, i love you. don't leave.
E: toodles.
B: depression is consuming my soul because my first boyfriend ever who i've been dating for about a year broke up with me. enter zombie mode

Match Made In Movie & Music Heaven!

I just realised that's alot of 'M' words in the post title. Hmmm...anyhow, I'm sure most of you already know Iron Man 2 is hitting cinemas this May, and your probably all psyched up for it too. Well if your not, then just go and have a look at either one of the 2 trailers and you will be pumped up for it. Trust me. Why? Simple. The amazing video from the trailer, coupled with the high energy, hard rock tunes from THE legendary Australian rock band, AC/DC, is bound to get you all excited and anxiously awaiting the film's release like a giddy-headed Twilight fangirl and instead of bobbing your head along like a 6 year old, you'd probably be headbanging along in anticipation.

AC/DC and Iron Man 2 will be teaming up, as their music will be featured throughout the movie. The album,"AC/DC: Iron Man 2" will officially be released on April 19 and will feature 15 of the bands hits. Track listing will be posted below :D You gotta admit, AC/DC's songs do fit in perfectly with the movie, don't you agree? Definitely a match made in heaven in my books :)

Transformers 3: News Update

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Tuesday, March 23, 2010 0 comments

I wasn't going to post anything so soon but this is some pretty big news. Yes, I know Transformers 2 wasn't exactly good. It was a pretty big letdown but somehow we all need to face the fact that we WILL head down to the cinema in July next year to watch it. No matter how disappointed I was with the last movie, it always gets me all worked up and excited when i find updates about the next one. Anyways, this is probably the first time we've heard anything about Transformers 3 and the news comes straight from the horse's mouth that is Michael Bay, the director. Since this kind of news doesn't get any more legit than this, I'm just going to copy and paste whatever he said.

" Hey, it's been a long time since I've posted. Just been a little busy.

Transformers 3 has been going very well. We are going to shoot in LA, Chicago, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, Africa, Moscow, and China. On the talent front, we just locked in Frances McDormand and John Malkovich. Both amazing actors I've always wanted to work with. We also just got Ken Jeong, he is the super funny actor stuck in the trunk from “Hangover” and the Doctor from “Knocked Up.”

We start shooting pre-shoots in about one month.

I also was at a Ferrari charity event this week raising money for a hospital being built by Ferrari in Haiti. I announced that night the newest Autobot to join Transformers: the Ferrari 458 Italia.

I also want to thank everyone on this site that donated to the Make -A-Wish charity. We raised $20,000 which I will personally be matching. This is a great charity where they make wishes come true for kids who are very ill. We have had many Kids from Make-A-Wish visit us on our Transformers sets and this time we will be posting video of their visits on Transformers 3.
"

There you have it. More locations around the world and a brand spanking new transformer in the form of a super shiny Ferrari 458 Italia. With news that they managed to get John Malkovich in the movie, I once again have high hopes for the next installment. My hopes are likely to be "crushed by one of Devastator's giant wrecking balls" though

Oh and if your still a little fuzzy over who Ken Jeong is. He was the naked guy in the trunk of the car to be precise. He also appeared in Role Models(2008). I'll add a picture of him, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand along with the Ferrari pics below.

Click on Read More to view all the pictures of the Ferrari 458 Italia

Fun Fact: John Malkovich was rumoured to be playing a role in Spider Man 4 but the plans for the movie apparently fell through.

Fun Fact: Frances McDormand is an Academy Award winner as best actress in 1996 in the movie Fargo.

Fun Fact: Ken Jeong is a medical physician turned actor.

Bleach to be turned into a full-fledged hollywood flick?

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Monday, March 22, 2010 0 comments
An interesting little tid-bit here for all my manga and anime loving friends. The film studio, Warner Bros. is in negotiations to secure the rights to the "Bleach" manga series in order to produce a big screen adptation of the popular anime and manga series. Peter Segal, the director of 50 First Dates and Get Smart is tipped to produce the film. Warner Bros. are also in the middle of producing a live action adaptation of the anime "Akira"

As for the rest of us non-manga reading and non-anime watching folk out there, "Bleach" was an original manga (Japanese comic) written and illustrated by Tite Kubo and has been published in weekly installments in Japan since August 2001. As it's popularity grew, it resulted in the production of an anime series(animated TV series). "Bleach" is about a 15-year-old boy who meets a Soul Reaper and this eventually changes his life as he must eventually protect the living and the dead from evil.

Bond 23: News & Rumours

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Monday, March 22, 2010 0 comments

Some truly amazing, awesome and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious news for ya'll (well in my opinion anyway ;p) about the 23rd Bond film. Okay here's what I've found out so far...

The projected film release date for Bond 23 is November 2011. Judi Dench reprises her role as M while Daniel Craig continues as the blonde, brutish, kick-ass Bond. Sam Mendes will direct the film. Sam Mendes has previously won an Academy Award in 1999 for his debut film, American Beauty. Also, there are rumours of the film to take place in Afghanistan....

Freida Pinto(Slumdog Millionaire)WILL be the next bond girl while my absolute FAVOURITE actress, the gorgeous Olivia Wilde from TV's House M.D. and the upcoming Tron:Legacy film is being rumoured to play a double-crossing UN agent in Afghanistan. This could very well rocket Miss Wilde to Hollywood stardom if the rumours are true. Step aside Megan Fox! There's a new hot shot in town. *Cue maniacal laugh*

Oh and I forgot... Michael Sheen, who appeared in New Moon as Aro and who will be appearing alongside Olivia Wilde in Tron:Legacy is rumoured to play Blofeld, the leader of the evil organization SPECTRE.

The fourth installment of the Pirates series is scheduled for a May 20th release in 2011. Interestingly, the Pirates franchise seem to have adopted an "out with the old, in with the new" approach. The fourth movie is being directed by Rob Marshall who directed Chicago (2002) which won 6 academy awards in 2003, including best picture. It also seems certain that the swashbuckling duo of Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom will not be in the fourth installment. Johnny Depp reprises his roll as Captain Jack Sparrow. Some of the new faces include Ian McShane, who will play the pirate Blackbeard who is supposed to be "the nastiest pirate ever" while Penelope Cruz will play Blackbeard's daughter / Jack's love interest. Welcome to The Sleepy Sloth!

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Saturday, March 20, 2010 0 comments
20th March 2010

Welcome to my brand new blog! This is the first official post on this blog(yay!) and hopefully, the begining of many many more to come. This post is sort of an introductory and welcome post. Well here goes....

No. This blog is not about sloths at all. Infact, I've actually decided that I'll mainly blog about movies since its one of my biggest interests. You can expect stuff like movie trailers, release dates, promo pics, news, etc. However, I am still torn between the decision of making the blog purely movie based or mixing it with other random stuff. For now, it'll be mixed I guess which probably explains some of the sports links just below the blog's banner :D

Onto the features...!

For now, you'll probably notice the 4 links below the banner. Their just temporary* until i find better one. If there are any EPL fans reading this, I hope you sign up with the Fantasy Premier League game(it's awesome imo).
Theres also a twitter update function which i will/might remove since I don't have a Twitter account. Some of you might probably be wondering if you read that right. Yes I DO NOT have a Twitter account. Psssh, who needs a 100 something word/character message every couple of minutes?
Theres also a featured video section which i will primarily use to share some interesting* music videos or songs. Below this, theres a little chatbox so please feel free to drop a message if your visiting ;)
