Review: Did Kick-Ass really kick ass?

Posted by Sleepy Sloth On April - 21st - 2010

Well i just saw the movie earlier today and thought I'd post my 2 cents about the movie. This will be a review of some sort. The first one on this blog. I'll try to keep it short. I definitely think Kick-Ass is worth watching. Not a must-watch but definitely worth it. My verdict about it being worthwhile had NOTHING to do with the movie whatsoever and heres why...

As much as it sickens me to post about "IT", it was pretty inevitable, since it was a movie and a money spinning cash-cow for that matter...

Transformers 3: New Autobot revealed!+Casting details+Location details

Posted by Kieran K On March - 23rd - 2010

This is probably the first time we've heard anything about Transformers 3 and the news comes straight from the horse's mouth that is Michael Bay, the director. Since this kind of news doesn't get any more legit than this, I'm just going to copy and paste whatever he said...

Its baaack....Trailer Thursdays!

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Thursday, November 18, 2010 0 comments
Wow. I've been dying to start this blog up again. Its been what? Some 5 months or so since I last posted. I've been out of the loop for so long but with three months of free time on my hands, I can get back to blogging again! As usual, I'll start off with my favourite part of the blog, Trailer Thursdays! Lots of trailers to share. The Green Lantern, Cowboys and Aliens, and Red Riding Hood just to name a few :)

Trailer #1 - Green Lantern
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Temuera Morrison, Taika Waititi
Release Date: June 17th, 2011

The trailer for this one is finally out! Only problem is, theres still half a year to go before its actually released. Trailer looks good. I was curious about this movie. I was really wondering if they'd manage to pull it off. I'm still not entirely convinced though. The costume looks reeealy fake. Wanted to see the 'Deadpool' movie first. Fingers crossed that they make that one soon.

Trailer #2 - Red Riding Hood
Cast: Amanda Seyfried, Shiloh Fernandez, Gary Oldman, Julie Christie, Max Irons, Virginia Madsen
Release date: March 11th, 2011

Wow, I still remember posting details about the casting on this movie and I got to admit, It sounded interesting at that time. Now, however, I have a totally different view. Honestly, what did it for me after watching the trailer was..."From, the director of Twilight". Definite deal breaker right there. Like a knee to the crotch.

Trailer #3 - The Mechanic
Cast: Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland, Christa Campbell, Jeff Chase, Beau Brasso
Release date: 28th Januray, 2011

No its not about some guy, a spanner and a car. Its about Jason Statham, cars and explosions. Whats not to like? Definitely going to be a good action movie. It might even have a decent storyline considering that this movie is a remake of a 1972 movie with the same title. Why don't you decide...

Trailer #4 - Cowboys and Aliens
Cast: Daniel Craig,, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Noah Ringer, Sam Rockwell, Paul Dano
Release date: July 29th, 2011

Ooohh! I've been waiting for this! This is what Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man has been up to lately. This movie is supposed to be one of the summer 'blockbusters' so yeah, definitely looking forward to it. Its also the reason why I haven't been seeing Olivia Wilde a.k.a. 'Thirteen' every Monday on TV's "House" for the last 2 months. Its okay Olivia, I forgive you.....
if the movie is awesome.

Trailer #5 - Love and Other Drugs
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Josh Gad, Gabriel Macht, Hank Azaria, Oliver Platt
Release date: November 24th, 2010

This one actually comes out next week and it looks like a contender for best comedy of 2010 to me. Why? Just watch the trailer. My new favourite line: "Were you molested by a Care Bear?" :D

Trailer #6 - Your Highness
Cast: James Franco, Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel, Justin Theroux, Charles Dance, Toby Jones
Release date: April 8th, 2011

This looks hilarious. Good cast, good director, can't wait :)

Cinematic Spotlight - April

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Friday, March 26, 2010 0 comments

As we approach the end of the month of March, its time to take a look at some of the movies coming out in April. We already know that the remake of Clash of the Titans should come out tops next month as it has hopped on the 3D bandwagon. With a cast featuring the likes of Liam Neeson, Sam Worthington, and Ralph Fiennes it is bound to be an action packed must watch for all...but I'm pretty sure all of you already planned on watching it anyway, so in this post, I would like to mention some of the less popular* movies coming out next month which you might be interested in.

There's a number of interesting movies to look forward next month, and I intend to highlight four of them....

* less popular = non-3D

1. Kick-Ass (Comedy, Action, Superhero)
This year seems to be the year of comic book adaptations. Kick-Ass is no exception. It is based on the comic book of the same title written by Mark Millar. The movie also has an interesting cast which includes Nicolas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasse who was in Superbad and Mark Strong who played the villain in last year's Sherlock Holmes

Synopsis:
"Kick-Ass" tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.

His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes -- including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (ChloĆ« Grace Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) -- and forges a friendship with another fledgling superhero, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But thanks to the scheming of a local mob boss Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong), that new alliance will be put to the test.

2.The Losers (Action, Adventure, Thriller)
Surprise, surprise! Another comic book adaptation. I don't know much about this movie since I'm not a comic book fan but it's supposed to be "An explosive tale of double cross and revenge" and that sounds like a movie I would like. What will it be like? We'll find out somewhere near the end of April. The film stars Star Trek's Zoe Saldana, Fantastic Four's Chris Evans and Jeffrey Dean Morgan who played The Comedian in Watchmen.

Synopsis:
An explosive tale of double cross and revenge, "The Losers" centers upon the members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team--Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar --find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they're joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war.

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street (Suspense, Horror)
Another remake of a classic movie. This film is a remake of the 1984 movie of the same title and is "designed to reboot the franchise". If this is true then we will be seeing more of Freddy Krueger in the future ;) The film will be out at the end of April and stars another actor from Watchmen, Jackie Earle Haley who played Rorschach. Other cast members include Katie Cassidy, who played Ruby on the TV show Supernatural and Kellan Lutz of Twilight. The movie is also produced by Transformers director Michael Bay.

Synopsis:
Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) returns in "A Nightmare on Elm Street," a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another...but when they sleep, there is no escape.

4. Date Night (Comedy, Romance)
Last but not least, I picked a comedy to wrap up this. I picked this one over The Back-up Plan because Date Night features probably the two funniest people in the leading roles. Steve Carell and Tina Fey were paired up for this movie. There is also another reason i picked this movie. The other Rom Com playing had Jennifer Lopez in it and that made me NOT want to watch it. Besides, any movie with Tina Fey and Steve Carell in it is bound to be hilarious in a not so chick-flick-ish way. The movie also has a pretty big cast and features Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Mark Ruffalo, James Franco, Common, and Leighton Meester.

Synopsis:
Claire and Phil Foster (Tina Fey and Steve Carell) are a typical suburban couple whose lives – including their weekly date nights of dinner and a movie – have become routine. To reignite the marital spark, they visit a trendy Manhattan bistro where a case of mistaken identity turns their evening into the ultimate date night-gone-awry. But as Claire and Phil take their unexpected walk on the wild side, they begin to remember what made them so special together.
