Review: Did Kick-Ass really kick ass?

Posted by Sleepy Sloth On April - 21st - 2010

Well i just saw the movie earlier today and thought I'd post my 2 cents about the movie. This will be a review of some sort. The first one on this blog. I'll try to keep it short. I definitely think Kick-Ass is worth watching. Not a must-watch but definitely worth it. My verdict about it being worthwhile had NOTHING to do with the movie whatsoever and heres why...

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - Exclusive clips, Trailer and HQ Poster

As much as it sickens me to post about "IT", it was pretty inevitable, since it was a movie and a money spinning cash-cow for that matter...

Posted by Kieran K On March - 25th - 2010

A couple of hours after posting about the AC/DC collaboration with Iron Man 2 article, some new Iron Man 2 movie posters were released. I decided since the last post was related, I'd post these immediately :)

Transformers 3: New Autobot revealed!+Casting details+Location details

Posted by Kieran K On March - 23rd - 2010

This is probably the first time we've heard anything about Transformers 3 and the news comes straight from the horse's mouth that is Michael Bay, the director. Since this kind of news doesn't get any more legit than this, I'm just going to copy and paste whatever he said...

Its baaack....Trailer Thursdays!

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Thursday, November 18, 2010 0 comments
Wow. I've been dying to start this blog up again. Its been what? Some 5 months or so since I last posted. I've been out of the loop for so long but with three months of free time on my hands, I can get back to blogging again! As usual, I'll start off with my favourite part of the blog, Trailer Thursdays! Lots of trailers to share. The Green Lantern, Cowboys and Aliens, and Red Riding Hood just to name a few :)

Trailer #1 - Green Lantern
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Temuera Morrison, Taika Waititi
Release Date: June 17th, 2011

The trailer for this one is finally out! Only problem is, theres still half a year to go before its actually released. Trailer looks good. I was curious about this movie. I was really wondering if they'd manage to pull it off. I'm still not entirely convinced though. The costume looks reeealy fake. Wanted to see the 'Deadpool' movie first. Fingers crossed that they make that one soon.

Trailer #2 - Red Riding Hood
Cast: Amanda Seyfried, Shiloh Fernandez, Gary Oldman, Julie Christie, Max Irons, Virginia Madsen
Release date: March 11th, 2011

Wow, I still remember posting details about the casting on this movie and I got to admit, It sounded interesting at that time. Now, however, I have a totally different view. Honestly, what did it for me after watching the trailer was..."From, the director of Twilight". Definite deal breaker right there. Like a knee to the crotch.

Trailer #3 - The Mechanic
Cast: Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland, Christa Campbell, Jeff Chase, Beau Brasso
Release date: 28th Januray, 2011

No its not about some guy, a spanner and a car. Its about Jason Statham, cars and explosions. Whats not to like? Definitely going to be a good action movie. It might even have a decent storyline considering that this movie is a remake of a 1972 movie with the same title. Why don't you decide...

Trailer #4 - Cowboys and Aliens
Cast: Daniel Craig,, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Noah Ringer, Sam Rockwell, Paul Dano
Release date: July 29th, 2011

Ooohh! I've been waiting for this! This is what Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man has been up to lately. This movie is supposed to be one of the summer 'blockbusters' so yeah, definitely looking forward to it. Its also the reason why I haven't been seeing Olivia Wilde a.k.a. 'Thirteen' every Monday on TV's "House" for the last 2 months. Its okay Olivia, I forgive you.....
if the movie is awesome.

Trailer #5 - Love and Other Drugs
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Josh Gad, Gabriel Macht, Hank Azaria, Oliver Platt
Release date: November 24th, 2010

This one actually comes out next week and it looks like a contender for best comedy of 2010 to me. Why? Just watch the trailer. My new favourite line: "Were you molested by a Care Bear?" :D

Trailer #6 - Your Highness
Cast: James Franco, Natalie Portman, Zooey Deschanel, Justin Theroux, Charles Dance, Toby Jones
Release date: April 8th, 2011

This looks hilarious. Good cast, good director, can't wait :)

Trailer Thursday

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Thursday, July 01, 2010 0 comments
I promised more posts. Yesterday's post didn't really count since I just found that article on the net anyway. I have a whopping SIX brand new trailers for ya'll today and a teaser trailer from this October's Paranormal Activity 2

Trailer #1 - Rango
Voice Cast: Johnny Depp, Abigail Breslin, Isla Fisher, Ian Abercrombie, Hemky Madera, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Ray Winstone, Timothy Olyphant
Release date: March 4th, 2011

Don't know what their doing releasing the trailer with more than half a year to go before its actually released but holy crap! This thing looks SUPER hilarious. I can't believe I actually want to see another animated movie. It's also directed by Gore Verbinski, the guy who directed the last three Pirates of the Caribbean movies (If you haven't already seen that plastered on the trailer). The animation looks stunning. I know I said that 2 weeks ago about The Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole but seriously, I'd rather wait till march and watch this than watch a movie about owls trying to mimic LotR.

Trailer #2 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I
Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Timothy Spall, Ralph Fiennes
Release date: November 19th, 2010

Shared the MTV teaser trailer last week here and now the full theatrical trailer is here! I'm officially excited about HP7 now. Looks like they brushed up on their CGI since it'll be released in 3D. I still think Voldermort looks more hilarious each time I see this guy. I'll probably be laughing like a lunatic in the cinema. Still only 2 main reasons why I'll watch it. 1. I've seen the other 6 and I don't like to leave series' hanging (yes even Twilight I'm afraid) and 2. Miss Granger :)

Trailer #3 - The Green Hornet
Cast: Seth Rogen, Michael Pena, Adam Sandler, Cameron Diaz, Kwon Sang-Woo, Jay Chou, Christoph Waltz, Tom Wilkinson
Release date: January 14th, 2011

Yet another film being released only next year but its a relief to see the trailer for this one out now. The movie was originally set to premier in December this year but the execs behind it weren't too happy with it and pushed its release. There was barely any marketing for this movie (lack of teasers/trailers, set photos or any photos for that matter) until now. It's also hopped onto the 3D train this one. I'm still not convinced with Seth Rogen being a superhero and all but Christoph Waltz from Inglorious Basterds is playing the villain here. Just because of that I am now a teeny tiny bit curious and anticipated about this movie. Not liking the fact that Jay Chou was cast. Looks to me like John Cho from Star Trek and Harold & Kumar would've been the perfect choice. Apart from that music from the trailer is nice. The car? Pssh batman's is cooler :)

Trailer #4 - Little Fockers
Cast: Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo, Barbra Streisand, Jessica Alba
Release date: December 22, 2010

The third installment in this series. The first two being, Meet the Parents(2000) and Meet the Fockers(2004). I'm guessing the humour will be mostly the same old stuff recycled and expecting us to forget since its been 6 years since the sequel. Anyway, Owen Wilson is to play Pam's (Teri Polo) ex who has returned. Nobody seems to know Jessica Alba's part in this movie though. I'm going to say this movie won't do well at the box office. It'll be competing with Tron: Legacy 3D and if I wanted comedy I'd probably watch A very Harold & Kumar christmas instead.

Trailer #5 - Operation: Endgame
Cast: Ving Rhames, Ellen Barkin, Bob Odenkirk, Jeffrey Tambor, Maggie Q, Joe Anderson, Zach Galifianakis, Odette Yustman, Rob Corrdry, Emilie de Ravin
Release date: July 27th, 2010

Honestly, what is it with all these action popcorn flicks this year huh? The Losers, Taken, and now this? Only one reason to go and watch this. Can you guess? I know you probably think I'm gonna say Maggie Q. Wrong! Now your probably thinking it was that other super cute girl, Odette Yustman. Wrong again! It's purely because of Zach Galifianakis. That dude's hilarious. Remember him from The Hangover? Yeah he's a hoot.

Trailer #6 - Red
Cast: Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, Julian McMahon, Ernest Borgnine, John Malkovich
Release date: October 15th, 2010

It has a solid cast which includes Mary-Louise Parker from TV's Weeds series. Honestly it looks alot like the action popcorn movies out there this year but with a twist. Their all retired CIA agents. Makes it more realistic in a way I suppose. With a cast like this how can you say no? Definitely stoked about this.

Teaser Trailer #1 - Paranormal Activity 2
Cast: Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat
Release date: October 22nd, 2010

I didn't watch the teaser because I'm not really a fan of this genre but I don't really see the point in this. The only reason it became well known was because it used a budget of $15,000 and made more than $100 mil, which isn't really much money for a movie to pull in.

This Just In: Rabid Twilight Fans Have A Problem

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Wednesday, June 30, 2010 0 comments
Hmmm two weeks since I last posted. Well I have a legit excuse! I was 'away' for a whole week without internet connection. June 30th. It's finally here to haunt us all. The day I decide to post something new and all I find plastered across the internet involves Twilight. *sigh* Even Rotten Tomatoes has TWO featured posts about this darn thing. What so great about it anyway? I watched the trailer and their vamps looked like zombies to me. The zombies from Zombieland looked more frightening. Well, I came across an article from a fellow sane person who is tired of all this bullcrap and I thought I'd share it here.

All credit for the following article goes to Eric Eisenberg from Cinema Blend:

This Just In: Rabid Twilight Fans Have A Problem

I don't know if you've noticed this at all, but some Twihards out there are totally fucking nuts. It takes a certain mentality to be abusive enough to drive an actress off of Twitter, use their dead pets to receive sympathy from an actor, and construct cloth versions of a human-vampire fetus. Any normal person should notice that this behavior isn't normal, and, after two years, someone finally has.

Nancy Baym, an associate professor at the University of Kansas, is now saying that some people's levels of fandom have reached the point of addiction. "A lot of fans engage in obsessive behavior, but to the extent that it's damaging to their offline relationships, that's pretty uncommon," she says. But take for example Kelli Chavez of Sylmar, California. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times she mentions that she "read each of the books at least eight or nine times and I've watched each of the movies over 300 times apiece," and that her inability to control herself has led to resentment from her 6-year-old son. News flash: when kindergartners are picking up signals of a problem before a 39-year-old woman does, there is a big fucking problem.

Since the release of the first film, the internet has watched as women young and old have become obsessive over the likes of Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and the writing of Stephanie Meyer. But here is a question that nobody seems to be asking: what the hell is so special about this material? There are billions of books better than those in the Twilight series. Writers like Ernest Hemmingway, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Leo Tolstoy and William Shakespeare make Meyer's books look like they were written in crayon (then again, so does the work of Dr. Seuss). Comparing the film series to examples such as Casablanca, Citizen Kane, The Godfather and Gone With The Wind would cause any professor of film to fall into hysterics. It can't just be that the actors are attractive and it can't be that their characters represent perfection, as both have been seen before and in multiple mediums. There are millions of Star Wars fans out there, but have you ever heard of any of them taking part in cyber-bullying because someone disagrees with their opinion? Hell, check the comments section of this article in half-an-hour and I bet at least one Twilight fan will be in the comments section calling me an idiot or calling for my head like I'm John The Baptist. There is something so completely off and wrong here, but can anyone explain why?

You can find the original article here

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was wondering the same thing too. What so great about this damn movie? Its defo one of the worst out there. Oh and in case you were wondering who the actress that got cyber bullied out of twitter, it was the super cute Emma Roberts, niece of Julia Roberts.

For a minute there I thought she was sane since she 'thrashed' Twilight, but after more digging I was disappointed to find out that she merely said she preferred the boy dog 'Team Jacob' over the sparkly but dead shemale 'Team Edward'

Trailer Thursday

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Thursday, June 17, 2010 0 comments
It's been a while(Again). Been busy with stuff and the World Cup but It's about time I actually put up some new stuff here. Always nice to start by sharing some new trailers again. Everybody loves those :D I have 4 trailers and a teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Enjoy =)

Trailer #1 - Middle Men
Cast: Luke Wilson, James Caan, Giovanni Ribisi, Gabriel Macht, Peter Stormare, Rachael Taylor
Release date: August 6th, 2010

Hmmm..when I heard the music and saw the first few seconds of this trailer, I thought it'd be alot like Ocean's Eleven where there was a lot of scheming involved and the audience needed to pay attention to keep track. Yes! My favourite kind of movie. Unfortunately it isn't. It's actually more of a comedy but still involves some scheming. Apparently its based on a true story (don't know how accurate that is). Whatever it is, it looks.....'interesting' I guess.

Trailer #2 - Takers
Cast: Idris Elba, Matt Dillon, Paul Walker, Hayden Christensen, Chris Brown, Michael Ealy, Tip "T.I." Harris, Jay Hernandez, Zoe Saldana
Release date: August 20th, 2010

A popcorn action movie with a huge cast no doubt but with The Expendables coming out a week earlier on August 13th, it seems very unlikely that this movie will manage to pull in any money at all. In case you didn't know, The Expendables is also a popcorn action movie with a huge cast that features the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke and Dolph Lundgren. Takers also looks alot like The Losers which came out in February and also starred both Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana. With that being said, I guess Takers will be relying heavily on Zoe Saldana to sell those tickets. Check out "The Expendables" trailer HERE

Trailer #3 - The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Cast: Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, William Moseley, Will Poulter, Anna Popplewell, Skandar Keynes, Liam Neeson(voice).
Release date: December 10th, 2010.

Isn't everybody tired of the Narnia movies yet? It should still be popular though because of the 3D factor. I probably won't watch this one in the cinemas at all. Your probably better off waiting until December 17th and watching Tron: Legacy in 3D. That movie was built for 3D! Unlike all these other movies bar Avatar, it didn't convert to 3D at the last minute.

Trailer #4 - Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole
Voice Cast: Ryan Kwanten, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Geoffrey Rush, Rachael Taylor, David Wenhem, Sam Neill
Release date: September 24th, 2010.

WOW. The animation in this one looks simply A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. It blows the Narnia trailer out of the water. Owls never looked so cool. I definitely can't wait to watch this.

Teaser Trailer - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I
Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Timothy Spall
Release Date: November 19th, 2010

A sneak peek that aired during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, which I missed unfortunately =( Nothing much to say about this movie. After 7 books and 6 movies, I'm pretty sure everyone knows what its about. It looks good but every time I see one of these Harry Potter movies, I swear the sight of Lord Voldermort gets funnier every single time. I wonder why? How short is Daniel Radcliffe anyway? Just noticed Ginny was much taller than him after watching this teaser.

The Weekend Roundup

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Sunday, May 23, 2010 0 comments
This years trend in movies seems to be remakes, with flicks such as A Nightmare on Elm Street, Clash of the Titans, The A-Team and Robin Hood all showing in cinemas this year. We're almost midway through the year, and it looks like the trend in movies for 2011/2012 is beginning to show already, and its all about the sequels and prequels. You can expect movies like Rise of the Apes, National Treasure 3, Hancock 2, and Get Smart 2.

The Bad News: There are talks about a Planet of the Apes prequel with Spiderman's James Franco set to star in it. If he does, he will play a scientist who is testing an Alzheimer's drug on apes. As a result, one ape test subject becomes super intelligent. This time around, the apes will be CGI generated unlike the previous movies which used human actors in suits and tons of make up. The prequel will be titled Rise of the Apes, and is scheduled for a June release next year.

The good news: National Treasure 3! Yay! The script for the movie is in it's draft stage, so this one is definitely happening. Nicolas Cage, Helen Mirren and Diane Kruger are all set to reprise their roles while Harry Potter's Gary Oldman is rumoured to be in it as well. The movie is in 'pre-production' and is set for 2011.
* A tiny sidenote: Gary Oldman will be voicing a character named Peacock in a Kung Fu Panda sequel, which will be out June 3, 2011.

The bad but expected news: Well I honestly didn't want to bore anyone by starting off with more news about Megan Fox's replacement in Transformers 3 but unfortunately, it is still one of the "big" stories circulating around the web. One of the first names to be thrown into the hat was Gemma Arterton,(Full story on that here) who seems to be pretty hot property this year with the movies she's in(Clash of the Titans, Prince of Persia). She would probably have been the best bet if they really wanted to give the movie a real story seeing as how she is a decent actress but being the genuine popcorn movie Transformers is, director Michael Bay is predicted by many to do the same and hire some unknown underwear model and throw her in front of the cameras. *cough*CHEAPSKATE*cough* After thinking about it for some time 3 seconds, anyone can play the role fine, even underwear models. After all, all you have to do is mimic a rock.

The I-don't-really-know-what-to-think-news: Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides to be in 3D. NOOOO! I really hope it won't be a stinker. 3D hype has really killed some movies for me. Even the Prince of Persia movie had enough sense not to do it in 3D. Anyway, 3D or not, there will still be tons of people flocking to see this one.

Heavy Transformers 3 News & Rumour Update

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Thursday, May 20, 2010 0 comments

It's been ages since I've done a proper news update. Really excited to share all the stuff I've come across. News and rumours involving some huge movies. As usual, theres always good and bad news. (well in my opinion anyway)

Now the biggest news it seems involves Transformers 3. Apparently Megan Fox will NOT be in it. This may be bad or good news to you. If your someone who just watched the first two movies over and over again for the eye candy, then I bet your probably crying your eyes out at this point. ;p If your not, your probably really happy because Megan Fox was never really a good actress anyway. Some sites say she was kicked out of the movie while some say she chose to quit. Anyway, the word now is that Gemma Arterton, you know that girl in Clash of the Titans and the princess in the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie, is rumoured to be replacing Megan Fox in Transformers 3. Another name being mentioned is Brooklyn Decker. Whom after, taking 5 minutes off this post to google, I discovered that she is in fact a model. She's had minor one-off roles in some tv shows but thats about it. Personally my money is on Gemma Arterton. Unless the people behind the third Transformers movie are really that corny and only want money. Then they might go for 'the model'.

After digging around, I've discovered that Patrick Dempsey, from TV's Grey's Anatomy and the movie Enchanted is also supposed to be in Transformers 3. Supposed to play Megan Fox's boss but seeing as she's not in the movie now, I really have no clue as to whether this story is just a rumour or not.

Onto other rumours regarding the movie, director Michael Bay has come out and said that the twin Autobots, Skids and Mudflap, just like Megan Fox, would be a no-show in the third installment. A few days after this however, a website reported that the twins were spotted on the set of the movie. The verdict? Nobody really knows for sure since Michael Bays likes to confuse fans by giving out false information from time to time. Just as he did with the second movie.

All in all I'm not really surprised considering Megan Fox had as much acting ability as the illiterate, trash talking, CGI-created twins. Oh wait I forgot. The twins could break dance. Hmmm... I'll have to sit down and rethink that again ;)

**Status Update**
Even more names are being thrown around at the moment. The list supposedly includes a host of supermodels with no acting experience whatsoever. There are some actors though. They include The Loser's Zoe Saldana and Twilight's Ashley Greene. My money is still on Gemma though with all the "big" movies with her in it this year. Besides, they've got John Malkovich to join the Transformers cast so it looks like their actually attempting to have a decent story and not depend purely on shiny robots and 'hot' women.(I hope)

Who's your money on to land the role? Have a look at Collider's rumoured list of candidates:

Trailer....Saturday? That doesn't sound right

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Saturday, May 15, 2010 0 comments
Well i normally post trailers on Thursdays but I figured it'd be best to come back from break with a couple of trailers to share. Enjoy =)

Trailer #1 - Easy A
Cast: Emma Stone, Amanda Bynes, Lisa Kudrow, Alyson Machalka, Thomas Haden Church, Stanley Tucci
Release: September 17th, 2010

I have to say, at first glance, this movie looked like boy meets girl rom-com crap(judging by the teaser trailer) but now after watching the trailer, it actually looks good and pretty funny. Definitely has a different plot. Worth checking out in cinemas for all. Hmmm....now if only they put Emma Stone and Michael Cera in a movie together. They'd definitely give Tina Fey and Steve Carell a fight for their money.

Trailer #2 - Jonah Hex
Cast: Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Will Arnett, Michael Shannon, Megan Fox, Michael Fassbender
Release: June 18th, 2010

I've actually been looking forward to this one even though it's just a popcorn movie. Jonah Hex, a western movie with a modern twist by the looks of it. Only reason you'll want to watch this in the cinema is for the sound system, big screen and popcorn. Oh, and Megan Fox still isn't a very good actress. Looked like she was struggling with the accent.

Trailer #3 - Inception
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Ken Watanabe, Tom Hardy
Release: July 16th, 2010

I don't know what to say about this movie aside from the fact that I think this movie will probably have the most unique plot this year. It also has a solid cast. Michael Caine was also featured in the trailer.

Trailer #4 - Secretariat
Cast: Diane Lane, Dylan Walsh, John Malkovich, Scott Glenn, Fred Thompson, Margo Martindale
Release: October 8th, 2010

Based on a true story about horse racing. Mmm... props to the people who made the trailer. I actually feel like watching a movie about horse racing. Probably won't go to the cinema to watch it though.

We're back and we need help. (No, not financially)

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Saturday, May 15, 2010 0 comments
Its been a three week or so hiatus from blogging for me, mostly due to being REALLY busy with real life stuff. I'm finally posting again but I'll have to cut down on posting in the near future. No more daily posting, just a few a week and once July comes, expect the blog to be updated mostly on weekends only (with the occasional mid-week post ;p).

I have no intention of letting the blog die anytime soon and will do my best to keep it up to date. It's finally hit me that running a blog regarding a subject that needs frequent updating is going to be super hard once I'm busy with Uni life, which is why I was wondering if there is anybody out there who reads my blog and would like to be a co-author here? I know it's a longshot but yes I'm looking for help to keep this blog up to date, and any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I'll maintain the blog(coding, layout, videos, images, etc) no problem. Just need another person(or two) who would like posting every now and then as well and help the blog grow. Read More......

Toy Story 3: News & Pictures

Posted by The Sleepy Sloth On Monday, April 26, 2010 0 comments

Yes, that's right....those oh so lovable band of merry toys will be back this year! I'm sure most of you would have known by now anyway. Buzz Lightyear and Woody will lead the gang back into cinemas on June 18th....wait for it..... IN 3D !! It's been an AWFUL LONG time since the first two movies, Toy Story(1995) and Toy Story 2(1999) came out and I cannot wait to watch the third. I'd definitely love to see the crowd watching this show. I bet all the teenagers and possibly some of the people in their early twenties will be filled with anticipation for this movie :D I know I am! The movie should definitely be great since it's being produced by Pixar, the studio which produced the first two installments as well as other successful animations such as Finding Nemo(2003), Monsters Inc.(2001), Wall-E(2008) and most recently, Up(2009). This time round, Andy is all grown up and goes away to college. He decides to store all his toys except for Woody. Somehow, the stored toys end up getting packed off to some children's day care centre and it's all up to Woody to save the rest of the toys.

There are 14 new characters to be introduced and I wanted to share with you some of the movie posters which include a handful ALL of the new characters. At first when they announced it would be in 3D I was really excited but after watching the recent re-release of the first two movies in 3D, I think we're all better off just watching it in regular 2D.

Anyway, click the Read More button to view all the Toy Story 3 posters :)
